The tried and tested Glysantin G48 coolant contains 2-ethylhexanoic acid, as do many other car coolants. Due to the EU classification of 2-ethylhexanoic acid, which means that corresponding products may no longer be sold to consumers, the manufacturer has decided to no longer offer the standard consumer containers of Glysantin G48 coolant.
As a result, Glysantin G48 coolant has been replaced by the coolants Glynsatin G40, Glysantin G64 and Glysantin G65, depending on the vehicle model.

What is Glysantin G48: HOAT coolant with OEM manufacturer approvals
Glysantin G48 coolant (now replaced by Glysantin G40, G64 and G65, see above) is a radiator antifreeze based on HOAT. It is particularly suitable for the effective protection of cooling circuits in passenger car combustion engines with water cooling against high and low temperatures. As a Si-OAT coolant, Glysantin G48 is one of the so-called hybrid coolants, which are also abbreviated as HOAT coolants.
This name comes from the fact that Glysantin G48, as a HOAT radiator antifreeze, contains silicates and organic additives at the same time. OAT stands for "Organic Acid Technology", HOAT for "Hybrid Organic Acid Technology".
Glysantin Coolant: What are the differences?
One of the most frequently asked questions in connection with coolants: What are the actual differences? Is not coolant the same as coolant? A widespread misconception: Glysantin is the same as Glysantin. Before you buy coolant in the ATO24 online store, we explain why this is not true and how you can find the right coolant for your car or motorcycle!
The products in the Glysantin coolant range differ in the same way as all other coolants: in the specifications and approvals they fulfill. Not every coolant can be filled into every car. You must refer to the information in your vehicle handbook. Here you will either find a specification according to the Glysantin system (i.e. a specification such as "G48", which directly indicates a product), one according to the Volkswagen system (e.g. "Use G11 coolant") or an approval such as VW TL-774-C or Mercedes-Benz MB 325.0.
You can now clearly determine the correct Glysantin coolant according to this specification or approval. Alternatively, you can use the Glysantin approval list, which allows you to classify by car make and year of manufacture.
MB 325.0 Approval - coolant for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars up to 2014
Glysantin G48 has the Mercedes-Benz approval MB 325.0 for corrosion protection agents. It can therefore be used as an alternative to the Mercedes-Benz OEM product, the Mercedes corrosion/antifreeze agent MB 325.0. This approval, which has now been largely replaced by Mercedes-Benz MB 325.6, can be used in vehicles with Mercedes-Benz passenger car engines up to and including April 2014. It is essential to check compatibility with your Mercedes engine before use via sheet 320.1 of the Mercedes-Benz operating instructions. You need a coolant according to the newer MB 325.6 regulation? No problem! You can also get Glysantin G40 coolant HERE in the ATO24 online store!
Approved for vehicles BMW, Mini, Opel, Mitsubishi and many more
The G48 antifreeze has Opel B 040 0240 approval and is therefore officially approved by the manufacturer for vehicles built up to 2000. Furthermore, the BMW LC-87 approval opens up the possibility of using Glysantin G48 in a large number of BMW motorcycle models and all Mini models with gasoline engines built from 2001 onwards. Glysantin G48 is approved by Mitsubishi for use in Mitsubishi Carisma vehicles built between 1996 and 2004 and Mitsubishi Colt vehicles built between 2004 and 2007.
Glysantin G48 corresponds to VW G11 (TL-774-C)
The Glysantin G48 standard, which many vehicle manufacturers use as a basis for approving a coolant in their vehicle models, can be translated directly into the Volkswagen VAG Group's G standard system: The Glysantin G48 standard corresponds to the VW G11 standard and the VW approval VW TL-774-C, which the Glysantin G48 radiator antifreeze and rust inhibitor has received from Volkswagen. Glysantin G48 can therefore be used in the following Volkswagen Group cars:
- VW from production date 1975 to 1996
- Audi with production 1981 to 1996
- Skoda with production 1989 to 1998
- Seat with production 1985 to 1996
- Porsche before 1995
Please note that there are now several newer approvals for coolants in the Volkswagen Group and check whether you need to use a coolant according to one of the following approvals. You can find an overview of all approvals according to the Volkswagen G standards in our blog article "Which coolant is right for your car?".
Glysantin G48 Ready Mix or Concentrate?
The Glysantin G48 products are available as practical Ready Mix or concentrate variants. While the Ready Mix is a coolant that has already been prepared for use and filling, the Glysantin G48 concentrate must be mixed with (distilled) water. The following mixing ratios are recommended:
- Mixing ratio 1:2 (30% Glysantin G48 + 70% water): Frost protection down to -20°C
- Mixing ratio 1:1.5 (40% Glysantin G48 + 60% water): Frost protection down to -27°C
- Mixing ratio 1:1 (50% Glysantin G48 + 50% water): Frost protection down to -40°C
Glysantin G48 coolant is free from nitrite, amine, phosphate and borate.
