The Ravenol AWD-H Fluid is a fully synthetic Haldex oil for the well-known electronically controlled multi-plate clutch "Haldex clutch".
This high-quality special product is exclusively and uncompromisingly tailored for use in different generations of Haldex clutches and their different requirements.
A total of five different versions of Haldex clutches in four-wheel drive applications have been developed - initially by the Swedish manufacturer Haldex, initially in versions that worked by means of speed differences between the front and rear axles, and later by means of an electronic control system that makes the response of the drive more precise and faster, while at the same time allowing the driving characteristics to be influenced independently of measured traction conditions. Since 2011, "Haldex" drives have been produced by US manufacturer BorgWarner. If the reference numbers and manufacturer's recommendations are observed, the Ravenol AWD-H Halex oil can be used for all Haldex couplings.
High quality formulation Made in Germany!
The high-quality gear oil is based on selected base oils, which have been enriched with equally valuable additives. Since the Haldex clutch is located close to the engine and is driven continuously, it requires a particularly performance-oriented lubrication. The Ravenol Haldex oil not only provides the best friction values, but also guarantees the best possible power transmission.
For the oil used in the Haldex clutch, the manufacturer Ravenol uses a gear oil with a higher viscosity index (VI). Due to this property, the oil reliably withstands even high operating temperatures. Meanwhile, excellent cooling properties ensure that less wear occurs during the operating period.
Ravenol Haldex clutch oil for Volkswagen, Audi, Volvo, etc. Vehicles
Not least due to the fact that the origin of the Haldex clutch lies with the Swedish car manufacturer SAAB, the term "Haldex clutch" is particularly strongly associated with certain car brands in circles of car enthusiasts. One such brand is undoubtedly the Swedish manufacturer Volvo.
In the Volvo AWD or Volvo All Wheel Drive, Haldex clutches of generations 3, 4 and 5 are used. Volvo calls the Haldex clutch Volvo AOC (Volvo Active On Demand Coupling). These can be found in the following car models, for example:
- Volvo S40 AWD
- Volvo S60 AWD / S60 R
- Volvo S80 AWD
- Volvo V50 AWD
- Volvo V70 AWD / V70 R
- Volvo XC 40
- Volvo XC 60
- Volvo XC 70
- Volvo XC 90
If the manual of your Volvo contains the information that the Haldex clutch requires a transmission fluid with Volvo OEM part number 31367940, the Ravenol AWD-H fluid is perfect for use in your car!
Besides Volvo 4WDs, the Haldex 4WD is often associated with the Volkswagen / VW group - not without reason: As successor of the legendary VW Syncro drive, which in its last generation used a Visco clutch, the VW 4Motion drive was introduced and from then on the Haldex clutch was part of the Volkswagen kit. Haldex clutches can be found in this series of a large number of Volkswagen models:
- VW Golf, for example the VW Golf 7 R, Golf VII 4Motion
- VW Bora
- VW Caddy
- VW Passat
- VW Tiguan
- VW Sharan
- VW Transporter T5
Skoda and Seat models such as Seat Leon, Seat Altea, Seat Ateca or Seat Alhambra, Skoda Yeti, Skoda Octavia, Skoda Superb or Skoda Kodiaq also feature Haldex clutches.
Also in some Audi cars with Audi quattro drive there are four-wheel drive systems that use a Haldex clutch. The Audi quattro concept is not, as is often mistakenly assumed, a drive concept that has remained unchanged over the years. In fact, quite different concepts have evolved historically. Especially in vehicles with transversely mounted engines, as is the case with Volkswagen vehicles, quattro drives with Haldex couplings can be found, among them
- Audi A3, S3 Quattro, Audi S3, Audi RS3
- Audi TT Coupe, Roadster, Audi TTS, Audi TT RS
If one of the following VW or Audi OEM part numbers is found in your vehicle manual, the Ravenol AWD-H Fluid is suitable for your vehicle: VW G 060 175 A2, VW G 055 175 A2, VW G 052 175 A2
Ravenol AWD-H receives the manufacturer's recommendation for BMW OEM part number 83222413513 and can therefore also be used for variants of Haldex clutches of the brands BMW and Mini, which require a so-called BMW HOK oil or HOC oil. This includes:
- BMW 1 series F40 in 120dX and M135iX
- BMW 2 Series Active Tourer F45, F46
- BMW X1 F48
- BMW X2 F39
- Mini Cooper S All4 Clubman F54
- Mini John Cooper Works JCW All4 Countryman F60
Other renowned vehicle manufacturers also use Haldex clutches for their all-wheel drive concepts. Haldex clutches can also be found in Opel Insignia and Ford Kuga vehicles.
This information can only serve as a general orientation. When choosing the correct oil for your four-wheel drive with Haldex clutch, it is imperative to follow the instructions in your vehicle manual! This is the only reliable information about which oil may be used for the lubrication of your Haldex clutch!
Change Haldex oil - When is the right time?
Generally speaking, there is no one time to change the oil on a Haldex clutch, regardless of the manufacturer or vehicle. As with all other oils in the vehicle, which are subject to consumption or wear of their protective properties, an early change will never cause damage to your vehicle. In fact, it can only prolong the life of the components to be protected.
However, it is advisable to follow the maintenance intervals specified in your vehicle's user manual. Usually you will find information on how to change the Haldex oil at regular intervals. Depending on the manufacturer, model and version installed, change intervals vary between 30,000 km and 60,000 km.
